Why I Started This

Upon having to quit my job due to illness during my pregnancy eight years ago, I wondered how I was going to maintain an income and be at home. At the time I was working the second shift, which gave me little time with my then 1st grader son. Being put on bed rest was a bit of a blessing in more ways than one. Sure my body was going through some tough times, the money was no longer coming in, but now I was able see more of my son (in between sick bouts) and the making of Sunshine and Butterflies began. Put on bed rest after my first month of pregnancy, my first child gone to school all day for the first time and the house awfully quite for the first time in years, I needed to find a way to make things happen, but make sure I could try and keep my sick self and this baby as healthy as possible. Then one day I remembered the joy I found with one purchase, and I found my first niche. It all stemmed from the purchase of a Christening outfit. The search, finding the absolute perfect one, the right size, detail, exactly what I needed for my little one's special day. That was it! I've got it! I started my search for that personal touch I wanted to serve, and found a seamstress making beautiful Handmade Christening Gowns and Outfits. What joy I found making families happy on such a special occasion. My biggest fear occurred two years in when I received a weeks notice that she was closing her doors during the recession and would no longer be making the beautiful gowns and outfits anymore. Still needing to bring in income, I needed to find gowns fast. I went the way I didn't really want to go and brought in some mass produced gowns. Don't get me wrong, they did well, they just didn't have that personal touch I long for. I decided I would have to go back to my roots and go in search of that custom handmade feel again. I was fortunate enough to network with some wonderful dress makers and am back to where I belong, giving you that personal touch I love so much. I have since expanded my custom clothing to Boutique and Wedding Formal and I still have that custom personal touch that goes along with it. That's what I was put on this earth to do I think, to make families happy on days that are milestones in their lives. I had a plan in life.

Networking...Or At Least Trying To

I've been spending my days on Facebook trying to network with other business's to build my on fan page base. This was something we are willing to do between each other as fellow Facebook business members. In the mean time Facebook is marking our efforts as spam and suspending our efforts to network by banning us from commenting. I could not comment on people asking about my items. I lost business. There were thousands of us being suspended at the same time. I emailed Facebook to complain that we were not spamming and received a return email stating it was a mistake...to this day, I still can not comment from my business page and the 15 days are over. If Facebook does not want us socializing our business there, we are happy to create a different page and take it elsewhere. Please Facebook, you are a networking center, let us network.

A Whole New Sunshine And Butterflies

When I started this Boutique, I wanted it to be special, not your normal, everyday boutique. In the beginning, I started of with some mass produced items, but kept to my beliefs and worked with a small company that made Handmade Christening gowns. Almost two years ago, I received a last minute short notice stating they were going out of business and I was absolutely heartbroken. I could no longer provide that special handmade touch for my customers, and no matter how hard I looked, the only handmade providers were overseas and not cost effective. Against my better judgement, in order to keep the business alive, I had to go to mass produced gowns and outfits...I felt like I sold my soul. Don't get me wrong, these gowns are special,however, they were not that special touch I prefer. In the long run, they were so mass produced the care and customer service lacked from those producing them for me which made my decision. I was moving on and determined to find my own designers. I have successfully been blessed with some great designers who not only make some Exquisite, Handmade Baptism/Christening Gowns, they also make Christening/Baptism Outfits, Christening Accessories (Bonnets, Blankets) and incredible Boutique Clothing. Our personal touch is back. These gowns and outfits are custom made down to your child's specific measurements. Many are one of a kind.
